THE Constituent Assembly (CA) has once again failed to determine on the sensitive issue of whether to use secret or open vote modality whose fate was anxiously awaited here.
On Friday, the CA was adjourned until Saturday morning to pave way for the select team of “wisemen” to meet and discuss on the way forward before the sections are brought back to the debating chamber for decision.
Sources from the committee had it that the discussion on the matter turned out to be so complex that no consensus was reached hence allocating more time for discussion.
And as members were set to attend morning session on Saturday, a message was conveyed on the cancellation of the morning session until later in the evening as the meeting of the “wise group” was still going on.
When the session met later in the evening, the interim Chairman Mr Pandu Ameir Kificho asked for members to continue with other sections and leave behind section 37 and 38 which contained sensitive issues on secret and open voting modalities.
“The team has asked for more time to deliberate further on the sections 37 and 38 and I think it was a good idea.
Let them have time to go deeper into the matter,” he said. However, some members were not happy with skipping the sensitive sections, cautioning that it was contrary to the determination to timely solve it once and for all.
It was not immediately communicated however when the “wisemen” team will be able to complete the consultations and bring back the matter to the Assembly for final decision.
Until the session was adjourned, members were discussing other sections from 32 to 43 with the exception of 37 and 38 regarding secret and open voting system.
