BAGAMOYO has been described as a town with many investment and business potential able to attract investors in various activities.
The Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office (Investment and Empowerment), Dr Mary Nagu, said this during talks with the Mayor of Vallejo, California in the US, Mr Osby Davis, in Bagamoyo.
Mr Davis was leading a group of investors and business persons with a view of learning about Bagamoyo’s opportunities.
“This is another great chance for the people of Bagamoyo and Tanzania at large,” she said. She said that Vallejo and Bagamoyo were sister cities and it was good that the long time relations was evolving into business ties.
The US town business community was visited Tanzania for two days with a view of forging links with their counterparts in Bagamoyo.
Bagamoyo has plenty of arable land and rivers such as Ruvu and Wami that make it possible to do modern irrigation farming in the area.
Minister Nagu said other potentials included fishing and tourism. She said Tanzania has a lot of investment opportunities such as building of industries to add value to agriculture, minerals, livestock products, infrastructure development, among others.
Mr Davis said they have historic relations with Bagamoyo and businesspeople from Vallejo would like to invest in the town.
“We feel like we are at home,” he said. He noted that they are interested in several areas such as agriculture and tourism and that investing in those areas would be for the mutual benefit of the people from both towns.
The tour was organized by Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) and Dar es Salaam mayor, Dr Didas Masaburi. Mr Davis led a team of 13 businesspeople who will also visit Zanzibar before their departure.
